During a historic G5 level solar storm on May 11th, 2024 a “starburst” aurora was seen in central Iowa around 41N, an incredibly low latitude for aurora to exist. This storm became the strongest solar storm at earth since the last G5 storm in 2003. A “starburst” effect is created when a large aurora pillar forms overhead giving an incredible and unique experience usually held seldom to the higher latitude regions of the globe.
